The Secret in the Storm

Ravi Ila Bhatt
Arjun and Mira were newlyweds, traveling back to their new apartment in Bhavnagar. To avoid the heavy highway traffic, they decided to take a scenic ferry ride across the massive Sea. The evening started beautifully, with the sun setting like a giant orange jalebi in the sky.
Suddenly, the weather turned furious. Heavy black clouds swallowed the sky, and a fierce monsoon storm hit the river. The small ferry began to toss and turn violently on the crashing waves. Rain poured in sheets, and the wind howled like a wild animal.
Mira gripped the wet wooden seat, her heart pounding. She looked around at the rising water, terrified. "Arjun! Look at the waves! The boatman is losing control! We are going to drown!" she screamed over the thunder.
But Arjun, who was a brave officer in the Indian Army, sat completely still. He looked out at the raging sea, his face as calm as a quiet morning. He wasn't crying, shaking, or panicking.
This made Mira even more upset. "Are you frozen with fear?" she shouted, wiping the rain from her eyes. "How can you sit there like a statue? This might be our last moment alive! Aren’t you afraid of dying?"
Arjun looked at his terrified bride and smiled gently. Without saying a word, he reached into his travel bag and pulled out his sharp, silver ceremonial dagger.
Mira gasped. Before she could ask what he was doing, Arjun stepped closer and held the sharp blade right against her neck. It was so close that she could feel the cold metal against her skin. One small slip, and she could be badly hurt.
Arjun looked deeply into her eyes and asked, "Tell me, Mira. Are you afraid now?"
To his surprise, Mira stopped trembling and let out a soft laugh. "Of course not! Why should I be scared of a blade in your hand? You are my husband. You love me, and you would protect me with your life. I know you will never hurt me."
Arjun smiled warmly, put the dagger back into his bag, and held her hand.
"That is my answer to you, dear Mira," Arjun said softly. "I know that God loves us even more than we love each other. This fierce storm, the wild wind, and the giant sea are all held in His hands. Just like you trust me not to hurt you with this blade, I trust Him completely with this storm."
He looked up at the dark sky and continued, "Whatever happens next will be for our best. If we safely reach the shore, it is good. If our journey ends here, that is also His plan. He loves us, and He can never do anything wrong."
Hearing his words, a strange peace washed over Mira. Her fear melted away. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and trusted. Within an hour, the storm cleared, and the ferry safely reached the bustling shores of the Dahej city.
