RangRaja and the Painting

- If you see a mistake in this painting, please draw a little circle on it

- Ravi Ila Bhatt

Once upon a time, in the colourful, busy city of Mumbai, lived a painter named RangRaja. He was super famous! His pictures of bright blue oceans and dancing peacocks were so beautiful that thousands of people came to see them. Everyone cheered and said, "Wow! RangRaja, you are the best!"

But one day, RangRaja started to worry. "Hmm," he thought, "Do people really love my art, or are they just being polite when I'm around?"

He decided to find out with a little test.

The next morning, RangRaja took one of his prettiest paintings and placed it in the middle of a very busy park called Chowpatty. Below the painting, he put a sign that read:

"If you see a mistake in this painting, please draw a little circle on it."

That evening, RangRaja came back. His heart felt like a little stone. The painting was covered! There were circles everywhere, hundreds of messy marks pointing out every tiny mistake people thought they saw. RangRaja felt sad and hurt. He quickly took his painting home.

This made RangRaja very gloomy. He put away his paints and brushes. He stopped painting completely and wouldn't even answer the door!

A few days later, his best friend, a clever writer named Rohan, came to visit. Rohan saw RangRaja's sad face and asked, "What's wrong, my friend?"

RangRaja told Rohan the whole story about the painting full of circles.

Rohan listened carefully, then smiled. "Don't worry," he said. "Let’s try one more time! Put a different painting in the same park, but this time, put a different note."

RangRaja wiped his eyes and agreed.

The next morning, he displayed a new, lovely painting. This time the sign read:

"If you see a mistake in this painting, please correct it using the brush and paints provided."

In the evening, Rang Raja and Rohan went back to the park. RangRaja held his breath.

Guess what? The painting was exactly the same as in the morning! It was completely untouched. The little pots of paint and the brush hadn't been used even once.

RangRaja was puzzled. Rohan patted his shoulder and explained, "Do you see the magic, RangRaja? Anyone can easily point out a mistake. Anyone can find fault. But only a few people know how to fix it and make it better."

Rohan continued, "The problem wasn't your art; it was asking for help from people who didn't know how to give it. Don't let the opinions of people who only point fingers make you stop painting!"

RangRaja's eyes lit up. He finally understood! He ran home, grabbed his favourite brush, and started painting again, happily ever after.

Moral

Don't listen to advice from just anyone. If you want to get better at something, only ask for help from someone who is already a super expert!
