Amazing Amphibian: The Salamander

Frogs are born in water as tadpoles and live on land after becoming adults. Animals that live half their lives in water and half on land are called amphibians. Frogs are well-known, but there are about 2,800 types of amphibians on Earth. Among them, the Mexican Salamander is distinctive. The salamander, which has orange spots on a black body, is an animal shaped like a lizard. This animal, which has short legs and a tail, is found in countries of the Northern Hemisphere. They can grow up to five feet long when mature. The tongue of some salamanders is longer than their body. The Giant Salamanders found in China resemble massive chameleons. North America has the most varieties of salamanders. Some salamanders have a venomous bite.

The salamander hunts small insects during the night. During the day, it lives in burrows in the ground. A 26-inch-long salamander called 'Aalapuppi' (or Waterdog) makes a sound like dogs barking, and is also called a Waterdog.
