Drugs worth ₹4.26 cr seized in Banaskantha, foreign national arrested

The Gujarat-Rajasthan border has become a business route for narcotic dealers with frequent smuggling cases coming to the fore. Banaskantha police arrested a Nigerian national with drugs worth ₹4.26 cr from Amirgadh, a town sharing borders with the neighbouring state, Rajasthan.

The Palanpur local crime branch (LCB) inspector, DR Gadhvi, and his team were on a vehicle check-post following a suspicious lead. At that time, a Nigerian national seemed suspicious and was seated in a private bus travelling from Delhi en route to Gujarat. She seemed scared to see the police and started hiding her belongings.

On checking her belongings, a 4.25 kg package of MDMA (also known as MD drugs or ecstasy, which are banned under the NDPS Act) was found. It is worth ₹4.25 cr in the international market.

In the preliminary investigation, the woman was identified as Nwakaego Paul, an illegal resident of Delhi’s Chander Vihar. Paul is originally from Nigeria and visited India on a tourist visa, which expired two years ago.

After that, she used to live illegally in Delhi and supply drugs across various states, including Gujarat and Rajasthan. She earned ₹50,000 for each trip she made, revealed the investigation.

Further investigation may point to a larger drug smuggling racket.
