Beautiful Films Every
Kid Should Watch - What if a book didn't just tell a story-but pulled you inside it? What if your imagination could save an entire magical world? Get ready for The NeverEnding Story and a dreamy adventure full of dragons!
T he NeverEnding Story is a magical fantasy story about a shy boy named Bastian.
Bastian loves books but feels lonely and a little scared in real life. One day, while escaping from bullies, he enters a bookstore and finds a mysterious book called The NeverEnding Story. Curious, he hides in his school attic and begins reading it.
But this is no ordinary book…
Inside the book is a magical land called Fantasia. It is full of strange and wonderful creatures-giants, dragons, and brave warriors. But this beautiful world is in danger. A dark force called "The Nothing" is slowly destroying everything.
To save Fantasia, a young warrior named Atreyu is chosen. His mission is to find a cure for the Childlike Empress, the ruler of Fantasia, because her illness is connected to the destruction of the land.
As Bastian reads, something incredible happens.
He realizes that the story is not just a story…
It is happening in real time…
And somehow… he is part of it!
The characters begin to "feel" his presence. They need him to believe, to imagine, and to act. In the end, Bastian must gather all his courage and give the Empress a new name-a simple but powerful act that saves the entire world of Fantasia.
This movie is not just about adventure-it's about how imagination and belief can change everything.
How was
the movie made?
The film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen, who wanted to create a fantasy world that felt real and magical at the same time.
At that time (1984), there was no advanced computer graphics like today. So, the filmmakers used real sets, huge models, puppets, and practical effects.
For example:
Falkor, the luckdragon, was not made on a computer. It was a giant mechanical puppet! Actors actually sat on it while filming.
The movie was based on the novel by Michael Ende, although the film tells only part of the original book.
Petersen believed strongly in storytelling through imagination. He once said:
"Fantasy is not just an escape-it helps us understand ourselves."
And this idea shines throughout the film. Even though the story is magical, the emotions-fear, loneliness, hope-feel very real.
What should kids
learn from
the movie?
This film may look like a fantasy adventure, but it teaches some very powerful lessons:
- Believe in yourself
Bastian begins as a scared, unsure boy. But when he believes in himself, he becomes the hero of the story. - Imagination is powerful
Your imagination is not "just dreaming." It can help you think, solve problems, and grow stronger. - Courage means moving forward even when you're scared Atreyu faces dangerous creatures and situations-but he keeps going. That's true bravery.
- Don't let "The Nothing" take over
"The Nothing" can be seen as sadness, fear, or hopelessness. The film teaches us to fight these feelings with hope. - Your voice matters
Sometimes, even a simple action-like speaking a name-can change everything. - Stories can heal us
Books and stories are not just for fun. They help us understand life and ourselves better.
Final Words
The NeverEnding Story is not just a film-it is an experience. It reminds us that even when life feels difficult, we all have a "Fantasia" inside us-a world of dreams, hope, and imagination.
The story became so popular that it led to sequels like:
The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter
The NeverEnding Story III
There was also a TV series adaptation inspired by the same story, as well as stage and theatre productions that brought the magical world to live audiences. Even today, this film continues to inspire children (and adults!) to dream big. Because in the end, the biggest message is simple:
The world may seem dark sometimes…
But your imagination can light it up
And maybe… just maybe…
You are already part of a story waiting to be told.
