M aya had always loved exploring the woods behind her house, but she had never gone farther than the old oak tree.
One afternoon, while looking for her lost skateboard, she noticed something strange: a tiny metal box buried beneath the roots of the oak.
Inside was a dusty old map with a single sentence written across it:
"Find the place where the river disappears."
Maya's heart raced with excitement. She grabbed a flashlight and followed the map.
She crossed a wooden bridge, climbed over a rocky hill, and finally reached a river that vanished beneath a wall of moss-covered stones.
Behind the moss was a narrow tunnel.
Maya hesitated for a moment. It was dark and a little frightening, but her curiosity was stronger. She squeezed through.
At the end, she discovered a huge underground cavern filled with glowing blue crystals. In the centre sat an ancient wooden chest. Maya carefully opened it.
Inside wasn't gold.
It was a collection of old photographs, journals and maps belonging to a famous explorer who had disappeared decades ago.
Maya smiled.
She hadn't found treasure.
She had found a mystery.
And judging by the final page of the explorer's journal, her adventure was only beginning.
