Bell Rock Lighthouse: The World's Oldest Surviving Sea-Washed Lighthouse

A lighthouse is a tower built along the coastline. At the top of this tower is a powerful light that shines far into the distance, guiding ships approaching from the open sea. A lighthouse is an essential structure for any harbor. The practice of building lighthouses dates back to the early days of seafaring in ancient times. Many lighthouses around the world have become famous for their architecture and height.
In older times, lighthouses produced light by burning oil lamps or torches. The Bell Rock Lighthouse, located off the coast of Scotland, is the oldest surviving sea-washed lighthouse. Built in 1807, it still stands today. Bell Rock is constructed of stone and stands 35 meters tall. Considered an engineering marvel, it was modernized in 1988 and remains in active service.
