The Tree That Thought It Was Ugly

- "This tree is useless," he muttered. "No leaves, no fruits, no strength. It's not worth cutting."
- Mishti Shah
O nce upon a time, deep inside a lush, green forest, there lived countless beautiful trees. Some were tall and proud, with branches stretching high into the sky. Some were covered with bright flowers that filled the air with fragrance. Others carried sweet fruits that birds and animals loved.
The forest was always alive- with chirping birds, buzzing insects, playful monkeys, and gentle deer. It was a happy place, full of color and life.
But in the middle of this lively forest stood one lonely tree.
Unlike the others, this tree had no leaves. No flowers bloomed on its branches. No fruits grew on it. It was just a dry trunk with thin, bare branches stretching out awkwardly.
The other trees often whispered and laughed.
"Look at that tree," one would say.
"So dull and lifeless!" another would giggle.
"It doesn't even look like it belongs here," said a third.
Hearing this day after day, the lonely tree began to feel deeply sad.
"Why am I like this?" it wondered. "Why don't I have beautiful leaves or sweet fruits like the others?"
The tree felt ashamed of itself. It stopped looking at the sky, stopped swaying in the wind, and slowly lost all confidence. It even began to feel jealous of the other trees.
"If only I were like them," it sighed.
Days passed. Then one morning, something unusual happened.
A woodcutter entered the forest.
He looked around at the tall, healthy trees with shining leaves and strong branches. After resting for a while under one of them, he stood up, picked up his axe, and began his work.
Chop! Chop! Chop!
One by one, the beautiful trees began to fall.
The birds flew away in fear. Animals ran for safety. The forest, once full of joy, now echoed with the sound of falling trees.
The lonely tree trembled. It was scared, but also confused.
"Why is he cutting all the beautiful trees?" it thought.
Soon, the woodcutter came near the lonely tree. He looked at it carefully- from top to bottom.
He frowned.
"This tree is useless," he muttered. "No leaves, no fruits, no strength. It's not worth cutting."
And just like that, he walked away.
The lonely tree stood still, stunned.
For the first time in its life, it wasn't being compared, mocked, or judged- it was being spared.
As the sun began to set, the forest had changed. Many of the once-beautiful trees were gone. The place looked empty and quiet.
And there, standing tall among the fallen trunks, was the tree that had once felt ugly.
Slowly, a new feeling grew inside it- not sadness, not jealousy, but understanding.
"I thought I was unlucky," the tree said softly to itself.
"But today, my difference saved me." The wind blew gently, and for the first time, the tree lifted its branches with pride. It no longer felt ugly.
It felt unique.
From that day on, the tree stopped comparing itself to others. It stood happily, knowing that every living thing has its own purpose- even if it is not immediately visible.
And as seasons passed, small birds began to rest on its branches. Vines slowly wrapped around it, adding touches of green. Life returned- not in the same way as others, but in its own special way.
The tree had finally learned to accept itself.
Moral
Never feel unhappy or jealous of others. What makes you different may one day become your greatest strength.
