Egypt's Giant Spider The Camel Spider

Egyptian folklore has many stories about terrifying, violent, and giant-sized creatures like scorpions, spiders, and ants. These stories are often exaggerated. However, the camel spider found in Egypt, while maybe not huge in size, is indeed fearsome and aggressive.
These spiders, found in desert regions, can be up to 2 feet long. They have eight legs. There are thousands of different types of camel spiders. This spider has two stingers on its head. It doesn't have teeth, but the acidic, poisonous liquid from its stingers can burn the skin of its prey. These spiders are known to rip open the stomachs of sleeping camels and eat them. The spider's eight legs have many joints, allowing it to run very fast. Its back legs have fine hairs, which help it sense movement nearby. Its large eyes can recognize shapes. The enemy of this spider is the scorpion. A fight between a camel spider and a scorpion is a remarkable sight. The tribal people of Egypt catch these spiders and scorpions, make them fight, and enjoy watching them.
