Absconding smugglers include New Delhi-based Rakesh Rai, alias Robert, and Amandeep Singh; Bipin Darji and Pankaj Patel from Mehsana; and Zakir Shaikh from Mumbai

With the unrelenting and unending desire to settle abroad, be it by hook or by crook, has given rise to human traffickers in Gujarat.

To nab the smugglers who have been on the run for a long time, the Gujarat police have announced a reward of ₹25,000 on the arrest of each of those involved.

In a two-year-old case, 15 people were booked, and 9 out of them were arrested, including kingpin Bobby Patel. Patel was arrested with almost 69 passports and other documents.

Absconding smugglers include New Delhi-based Rakesh Rai, alias Robert, and Amandeep Singh; Bipin Darji and Pankaj Patel from Mehsana; and Zakir Shaikh from Mumbai.

The police have declared these smugglers ‘wanted’ and the reward money will be given to individuals who will give exact information about any of them.

However, as per police sources, the smugglers are believed to have fled outside of the country after they were booked in a human trafficking case.

Notably, Gujarat’s state monitoring cell (SMC) nabbed Keyur Patel, alias Ketan Patel, alias Manish Patel, from Mehsana’s Visnagar in December 2023.

He was allegedly working with human trafficking kingpin Bobby Patel, alias Bharat Patel, illegally sending Gujaratis to the US.

The disturbing stories of Indians crossing the US-Mexico border will continue to haunt the state for a long time. Numerous lives have been lost in the pursuit to enter the US.

Four family members from Gandhinagar’s Dingucha village froze to death while crossing the Canada-US border in Jan 2022.

In December 2022, a man from Kalol also died while crossing the Mexico-US border.

In Apr 2023, another four family members from Mehsana died while crossing the Canada-US border.

Moreover, Gujarat high court hearings are underway on the issue of nine people from Gujarat who mysteriously vanished seven months ago while attempting to enter the US illegally.
