Patients suffer as CT scan machines not operational at Ahmedabad hospitals

Machines non-operational at Civil, LG, and Shardaben General Hospital

Updated: Oct 1st, 2023

The Computed Tomography Scan (CT Scan) machines at multiple general hospitals in Ahmedabad are not operating, forcing those who are in need of it to get their scans done at a private centre. Notably, the private scans would prove to be costlier for the people than what they would have paid in a general hospital.

From Asarwa Civil Hospital, LG Hospital in Maninagar, and Shardaben General Hospital, the machines are not in operational condition.

Two months to get a new machine

According to sources from the Civil Hospital, the old machine was put out of operation as it stopped working. However, the tendering process for a new machine may take up to two months. On the other hand, claims have been made that the CT Scan machine at the 1200-bed hospital in the Civil Hospital premise is operational.

For the new machine, sources believe that the possibilities of getting a new machine are slim, at least before the end of the year.

Patients referred to other hospitals

The situation at the LG Hospital in Maninagar is similar. The in-charge superintendent, Dr Leena Dabhi stated that the machine has not been operational for the last 10 days, and the advertisement for a new one has been given by the hospital. According to Dr Dabhi, the new machine shall be operational within one and a half months.

The Shardaben General Hospital also has had its CT Scan machine non-operational for the last 10 days.

Currently, the patients who need a CT Scan from the LG Hospital are referred to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Institute of Medical Sciences (SVP), and to GCS Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre from the Shardaben General Hospital.
