The five accused are under a four-day remand.

As the details of the incident unfolded, it came to light that one of the accused raped a 19-year-old maid working at the woman's house, where the criminals broke into.

The deputy superintendent of police, Neelam Goswami, said, “The incident will be reconstructed with the help of the accused.”

The victim informed the police that the security guards had switched off the lights in the past as well, and they used to make obscene gestures towards her.

Moreover, on checking the residence of Yogesh Yadav, the manager of Aakash security agency, a fake police uniform of the police sub-inspector (PSI) with the nameplate “Rohit Kumar” was found. The Bopal police have lodged a complaint against the manager and carried out an investigation.

One of the five accused, Amritpal Singh, alias Goldie, previously went to jail for five years in a drug case in Punjab. The criminal histories of the other accused will also be investigated.

Details unravelling in gruesome case

The rape-accused security guards had looted cash and possessions amounting to ₹3.32 lakh from the woman’s house. The perpetrators also tried to rape her, but after she said that she is suffering from cancer and was three months pregnant, they decided not to.

The accused took the woman’s credit and debit cards, and also took her pin numbers by showing her a pistol. They then kept the pistol aside and continued to gather the other items. At that time, the woman took the pistol in her hand only to realise that it was a toy pistol.

Further police investigation into this case has revealed that all five security guards worked at Aakash security. However, all of them were not registered by the security firm, following which the police started their licence termination process and also initiated a probe into this. The five accused are also said to have criminal records against them in the past.

The ever-increasing crime rate in Ahmedabad has rapidly become a cause for concern. In yet another incident, a case of gang rape with robbery was reported in the city’s Shilaj area.

In a shocker, five miscreants, including three security guards of the apartment, barged into a house of a woman, gang-raped her 19-year-old maid, and fled the house after robbing the house.

What happened?

The incident began when lights were suddenly out at an apartment in Shilaj-based Safalya Renown. The woman living in the apartment went downstairs to probe and found out that someone had turned off the main power switch.

After a few moments, the lights were out again, and she informed the security guard about it.

Security guards became a threat

Meanwhile, three security guards and two other people broke into the woman’s house and held her hostage in her own house, robbing her of money, jewellery, an ATM card, and other items.

Two of the five accused gang-raped the maid working at the woman’s apartment and tried to rape the woman as well.

Later, they fled the crime scene, taking the woman’s car keys.

To pay for their conveyance, petrol, and other expenses on their way, they also learned the ATM PIN from the woman before fleeing the scene and withdrew ₹40,000.

Police proceedings

In the preliminary information, Bopal police found that three security guards, including Amritpal Singh Sikh, Sukhvindar Singh Sikh, Manjeet Singh Sikh, all three from Punjab, Rahul Singh Kosava from Uttar Pradesh, and Hari Om Thakor from Madhya Pradesh, were the perpetrators.

The head of Ahmedabad rural police, Amit Vasava, initiated the technical surveillance-based tracking, and teams were sent to different locations.

Banaskantha police succeeded

On learning that the miscreants were trying to flee to Rajasthan via Mehsana, the Ahmedabad police informed Akshay Raj Makwana, Banaskantha superintendent of police, to check suspicious cars from Palanpur.

After that, the Banaskantha police team successfully caught the five accused near Palanpur’s Aroma Circle who were trying to escape to Rajasthan.

Knowing that the police would easily chase the car based on FASTag transactions, they abandoned the car mid-way and caught a bus.

They were caught with robbed belongings from a private bus that was en route to Rajasthan and later handed over to Ahmedabad rural police.

Banaskantha police’s three-layer surveillance

The Banaskantha police set up a three-layer check, including three teams- the local crime branch, a special operation group, and other police to bust a car coming from Mehsana.

Shilaj rape and robbery case

The rape case will be filed as per the amended IPC 376D, where if a woman is raped by one or more persons constituting a group or acting in furtherance of a common intention, each of those persons will be deemed to have committed the offence of rape and shall be punished. The deputy superintendent of police will probe the entire case.

The security guard’s inimical plan

The five accused carried out the crime with the intention of not coming back to Gujarat. After the Diwali holidays, the accused planned their arrival back in the state, and therefore they orchestrated a plan to rob a house before leaving.

They targeted a woman living in the apartment who worked as a real estate broker and usually had cash in her house. The three security guards of Safalya Renown and the two security guards of another apartment executed the crime.

Legal proceedings will be initiated against the security agency if they fail to provide all the documents of the accused security guards.
