The peddler used to bring drugs from Mumbai every 15 days

Updated: Nov 4th, 2023

The Ahmedabad duo that was caught on Nov 2 from the Bapunagar area with drugs worth ₹19.41 lakh, are revealed to be serial drug peddlers. The investigation has revealed that they were selling drugs worth ₹40 lakh every month.

According to police reports, the MDMA drugs they sold were coming from Mumbai.

Partners in addiction

The questioning of Mohammad Saadiq Ansari and Ruksanabanu revealed that the couple had come in contact with each other due to their drug addiction.

Saadiq Ansari’s first wife had divorced him because of the addiction, however, since Saadiq and Ruksana both were drug addicts, they got to know each other three years ago and later got married.

Saadiq used to bring drugs from Mumbai every 15 days, and the couple would then sell them to their customers in Ahmedabad. Every 15 days, 200 gm of drugs were smuggled by Saadiq from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, accounting for at least ₹20 lakh. Thus, the duo made ₹40 lakh a month selling MDMA in Ahmedabad.

The duo is believed to have been operating this way for months, as they had more than 100 regular customers buying from them.

Tip-off and arrest

The Special Operation Group (SOG) was tipped off about two people in Bapunagar with drugs. Acting on it, the SOG nabbed the two suspects on Nov 2. 194 gm of MDMA drug was seized from them, accounting for ₹19.41 lakh.

The accused were identified as Saadiq alias Babu Ansari and Ruksanabanu alias Aisha Ansari.

The police questioning is further believed to reveal the name of their supplier from Mumbai, and the names of the people buying from the duo, unravelling a drug network of a significant scale.
