Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara win at the National Smart Cities Awards: Here’s the list

Surat came in second place in the national smart city award

The ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) today announced the national smart city awards 2023 under the Indian Smart Cities Awards contest (ISAC) 2022.

Indore bagged the national smart city award, while diamond city Surat came in second in the competition.

Gujarat’s Ahmedabad and Vadodara also bagged one award each.

Smart City Awards bagged by Gujarat

In the ISAC 2022, Surat came in second place in the national smart city award, followed by Uttar Pradesh’s Agra. Surat also won the award for COVID-19 innovation.

Ahmedabad won the award for culture and integrated command control centre (ICCC). Vadodara has emerged as the winner of the social aspects award.

Indore: National Smart City, and the other awardees

Indore has outperformed India’s cities, as it was awarded as the national smart city in the ISAC 2022. Indore has also won the award for the cleanest city six times in a row.

Madhya Pradesh also won the award for the best state. Another MP city, Jabalpur, won the award for best economy. Indore also won the award for sanitation, water, and urban environment.

The other awardees were: Coimbatore for the built environment; Chandigarh for governance and mobility; and Hubballi-Dharwad for the innovative idea category.

In the partner award, Enviro Control Pvt (infrastructure), L&T Construction, and PwC won the award for industry.

66 winners of the ISAC 2022

The winners of ISAC 2022, which was organised by the MoHUA, were announced by minister of housing and urban affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri.

ISAC 2022 saw 845 nominations from the 80 eligible smart cities. Out of these, 66 winners were felicitated in five different categories.

The 66 winners were segregated as 35 winners in project awards, six in innovation awards, 13 in national/zonal city awards, five in state/union territory (UT) awards, and seven in partner awards.

In an announcement, it was declared that the president of India, Droupadi Murmu, will felicitate the award winners on Sept 27 in Indore.

MoHUA’s 4th edition of ‘ISAC’

A statement released by MoHUA said, “The ISAC recognises and rewards the cities, projects, and innovative ideas that are promoting sustainable development across the 100 smart cities, as well as stimulating inclusive, equitable, safe, healthy, and collaborative cities, thus enhancing the quality of life for all. In the past, the ISAC has witnessed three editions in 2018, 2019, and 2020.”
