Worthless 999 Mangoes .
- "O Mother Ganga, I offered you a thousand mangoes. Please heal my son!"
Harish Naik
O nce upon a time, the only son of a very rich man fell terribly ill. Doctors tried every medicine, every treatment - but nothing worked. The boy just wouldn't get better.
The desperate father began visiting saints and wise men, begging for advice. One kind-hearted saint finally told him,
"The holy river Ganga can wash away all sins. She was born from Lord Shiva's hair! If you truly want your son to recover, offer her a gift - throw one thousand ripe, delicious mangoes into her sacred waters. She will surely bless your son."
The rich man wasted no time. He bought the juiciest, ripest mangoes in the market - a thousand of them! One by one, he threw them into the mighty river Ganga. Some mangoes sank. Some floated away with the swift current. None remained.
But - far away, standing by the riverbank, was a poor man. He hadn't eaten anything for days. Watching the mangoes float by, he jumped into the rushing waters and caught one mango. Just one.
He sat under a tree, peeled it slowly, and ate it joyfully. That single mango filled his belly and brought a smile to his tired face.
That night, the rich man had a dream. The beautiful Goddess Ganga appeared before him, smiling gently.
He folded his hands and said,
"O Mother Ganga, I offered you a thousand mangoes. Please heal my son!"
But Ganga kept smiling and said,
"Did you truly offer me a thousand mangoes? Or did you simply throw them away into the river? The only mango I truly received… was the one that fed the hungry man.
Feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, helping those in need - that is the real gift. I've been doing that for centuries."
The rich man woke up with tears in his eyes. He had learned the biggest lesson of his life.
From that day on, he stopped wasting money on empty rituals. Instead, he used his wealth to feed the poor, care for the sick, and help those in need.
And yes - his son did get better. Maybe it was the kindness that healed him.
