- એક વાર્તા... બે ભાષામાં!

- એક દિવસ હંસે હાથીને કહ્યું, 'તમે હંમેશાં એકલા કેમ બેસી રહો છો? શું તમને મિત્રતા નથી ગમતી? હું તમારો મિત્ર બનવા તૈયાર છું.' હાથી તો ચૂપ જ રહ્યો.
એ ક જંગલ હતું. ત્યાં એક ઊંડું તળાવ પણ હતું. એ તળાવને કિનારે એક મોટો હાથી રહેતો હતો. એ તો સૌથી ઊંચો અને સૌથી મોટો હતો. એની સૂંઢ પણ મોટી અને તાકાતવાળી. પણ ઘણા દિવસોથી તે એકલવાયો હતો. તે મૌન પાળતો હતો. બધાં પશુ તેનાથી દૂર રહેતાં. કોઈને એ ખબર નહોતી કે એ હંમેશા શાંત કેમ રહે છે. હાથીનું દિલ દુઃખથી ભરેલું હતું. વર્ષો પહેલાં તે મોટી હોનારતમાં પોતાનું કુટુંબ ગુમાવી બેઠો હતો, ત્યારથી એ કોઈની સાથે વાત કરતો નહોતો.
એક દિવસે તળાવ પાસે એક સફેદ હંસ આવ્યો. એની સફેદ પાંખો હતી, નરમ અવાજ અને ઊંચી ઊડાન પણ ખરી. એ તળાવમાં રમવા લાગ્યો અને ગીતો ગાવા લાગ્યો. પછી તો એ નિયમિત રીતે આવવા લાગ્યો. એને તો આ તળાવમાં રમવાની અને ગીતો ગાવાની મજા પડી ગઈ.
એક દિવસ હંસે હાથીને કહ્યું, 'તમે હંમેશાં એકલા કેમ બેસી રહો છો? શું તમને મિત્રતા નથી ગમતી? હું તમારો મિત્ર બનવા તૈયાર છું.' હાથી સૌ પ્રથમ તો ચૂપ રહ્યો. પછી કહ્યું, 'મારી પાસે પાંખ નથી, હું ના ગાઈ શકું કે કોઈની સાથે ના રમી શકું. હું તો ખખડધજ એવો છું. હું તને શું આપી શકું?'
હંસે નિખાલસતાથી સ્મિત આપ્યું. તેણે કહ્યું, 'મિત્રતા કોઈ આકાર કે અવાજથી થતી નથી. એ તો દિલથી થાય છે.'
પછી હંસ હાથી પાસે રોજ આવવા લાગ્યો. એનાં ગીતો, નરમ શબ્દો, અને રમતિયાળ સ્વભાવે હાથીનું દિલ જીતી લીધું. તે પણ હવે હંસ માટે વાંસના ફૂલો લાવતો, પાણી છાંટતો, અને તળાવના કિનારે બેઠાં બેઠાં ગીતો સાંભળતો.
એક દિવસે તળાવમાં કોઈએ જાળ બિછાવી. હંસ એમાં ફસાઇ ગયો. એ તરફડવા લાગ્યો. આ પરિસ્થિતિ જોઇને બીજાં પક્ષીઓ ઊડી ગયાં, પણ હાથી ત્યાં ઝટપટ દોડી ગયો. તેણે પોતાની સૂંઢ વડે હંસની આજુબાજુ વીંટાયેલી જાળ તોડી નાખી. હંસ સંપૂર્ણ રીતે મુક્ત થયો.
હંસે રડતાં રડતાં કહ્યું, 'હાથીભાઈ, તમારું મોટું શરીર મારા માટે ભયજનક નથી, પણ સુરક્ષાનું પ્રતીક છે.'
એ દિવસથી હાથી અને હંસ ખરેખરા સાથીદાર બન્યા.
એક મોટું નરમ હૃદય ધરાવતો હાથી અને એક નાનકડો પ્રેમાળ હંસ જંગલમાં દયા, મિત્રતા અને પ્રેમનું જીવંત ઉદાહરણ બની ગયા.
હાથીનું શરીર મોટું તો ખરું જ, પણ સાથે સાથે મોટું હૃદય પણ ખરું. એ શીખવે છે કે શક્તિ અને નમ્રતા સાથે રહી શકે છે.
બોધપાઠ
મિત્ર એ છે કે જે દુઃખમાં સાથ આપે, પછી ભલે તે હાથી જેટલો મોટો હોય કે હંસ જેટલો નાનો હોય!
The Sympathy of the Elephant and the Swan
One day, the swan said to the elephant: "Why do you always sit alone? Do you not like friendship? I am ready to become your friend." The elephant remained silent.
T here was a forest. There was also a deep lake there. A large elephant lived on the bank of that lake. He was the tallest and the largest; his trunk was also big and powerful. But for many days, he had been lonely. And he was observing silence. All the animals stayed away from him. No one knew why he always remained quiet.
The elephant's heart was filled with sorrow. Years ago, he had lost his family in a major disaster; since then, he would not talk to anyone.
One day, a white swan came near the lake. He had white wings, a soft voice, and also a high flight. He began to play in the lake and sing songs. After that, he started coming regularly. He enjoyed playing and singing songs in this lake.
One day, the swan said to the elephant: "Why do you always sit alone? Do you not like friendship? I am ready to become your friend."
The elephant remained silent at first; then he said, "I do not have wings, I cannot sing; nor can I play with anyone; I am so old and worn out; what can I give to you?"
The swan gave a frank smile. He said: "Friendship does not happen through shape or voice; it happens from the heart."
After that, the swan started coming to the elephant every day. His songs, soft words, and playful nature won the elephant's heart. Now, he too would bring bamboo flowers for the swan, sprinkle water, and listen to songs while sitting on the bank of the lake.
One day, someone spread a net in the lake. The swan got trapped in it. He began to flutter. Seeing that situation, the other birds flew away, but the elephant rushed there quickly. With his trunk, he broke the net wrapped around the swan; the swan was completely freed.
Crying, the swan said: "Brother elephant, your big body is no longer frightening to me, but a symbol of protection."
From that day on, the elephant and the swan became true companions.
Moral
A friend is one who stands by you in times of sorrow, whether they are as big as an elephant or as small as a swan!
