- એક વાર્તા... બે ભાષામાં!

એ ક નાનકડી વેદા. ભણવાની સાથે રમે, કૂદે અને મોજ કરે. વેદા તો ખૂબ ચતુર, અને સાથે તોફાની પણ એટલી જ!
પપ્પા જ્યારે પણ ઓફિસનાં કામે મુંબઈ જાય, ત્યારે કંઈક ને કંઈક વેદા માટે નવું લાવે. આ વખતે તો પપ્પા પૃથ્વીનો ગોળો લાવ્યા અને ફૂલદાની પાસે ટેબલ પર
મૂકી દીધો. એક સવારે વેદાબેન સ્કૂલ જવા તૈયાર થયા અને એની નજર પૃથ્વીના ગોળા પર પડી. તે તો બોલી ઊઠી,
'અરે વાહ! પપ્પા તો ગોળ ગોળ મસ્ત રમકડું
લાવ્યાં છેને!'
બપોરે વેદા શાળાએથી આવી. તેણે પૃથ્વીનો ગોળો લીધો અને રમવા બેસી ગઈ. જોરજોરથી ગોળો ફેરવે અને ખૂબ હસે!
એટલામાં હીંચકેથી દાદા આવ્યા. તેમણે વેદાને ખોળામાં બેસાડીને સમજાવ્યું-
'જો બેટા, આ રમવાની વસ્તુ નથી, સમજવાની
વસ્તુ છે. આને પૃથ્વીનો ગોળો કહેવાય.'
પછી દાદાએ પૃથ્વીનો ગોળો ફેરવતાં ફેરવતાં સાદી અને સરળ ભાષામાં સમજ આપવી શરૂ કરી.
દાદાએ વેદાને અમેરિકા અને કેનેડા જેવા દેશોનું સ્થાન બતાવ્યું. સોનુ માસી રહે તે ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયા અને સિંગાપોર પણ બતાવ્યા. વિશાળ દરિયાની સીમા પણ સમજાવી. ફોઈબા રહે તે દુબઈ જોઈને વેદા તો ખૂબ ખુશ થઈ ગઈ.
હવે તો વેદાને પૃથ્વીના ગોળામાં જુદા જુદા દેશોના નામ વાંચવાની ખૂબ મજા પડવા લાગી.
પછી તો દરરોજ વેદા દાદાજીનાં ખોળામાં પૃથ્વીનો ગોળો લઈને બેસી જાય અને એક નવી રમત રમે.
દાદા બોલે- 'જલ્દી શોધ... જલ્દી શોધ... ક્યાં છે દુબઈ? શોધ!'
અને વેદાબેન તરત જ દુબઈ શોધી કાઢે. પછી ફરી આ રમત આગળ વધે. આ રમત રમવામાં વેદાને તો ખૂબ
મજા આવે. વેદાના દોસ્તો પણ એને ઘરે આવે અને વેદા તેમને 'જલ્દી શોધ... જલ્દી શોધ'ની રમત રમાડે. વેદાના દોસ્તોને પણ ખૂબ મજા પડે.
વેદાને આમ રમતી જોઈ દાદા અને દાદી તો એટલાં ખુશ થાય કે વાત જ ન પૂછો!
વેદા તો હવે જ્યાં જ્યાં ગોળ વસ્તુ દેખાય, ત્યાં પૃથ્વીનો ગોળો યાદ કરે.
સાંજે પપ્પા મોસંબી લઈને ઘરે આવ્યા. વેદાને ફરી પૃથ્વી યાદ આવી ગઈ. પપ્પાએ પણ વેદા અને તેની મિત્ર ટોળીને પૃથ્વી વિશે સાદી અને સરળ સમજ આપી.
તેમણે રાત અને દિવસ કેવી રીતે થાય તેની પણ સરળ સમજ આપી. સાથે પૃથ્વીને સાચવવાની વાતો પણ સમજાવી.
પછી સૌ જમવા બેઠાં. મમ્મીએ વેદાને થાળીમાં લાડુ આપ્યો. વેદા તરત જ બોલી ઊઠી-
'જલ્દી બોલ, જલ્દી બોલ,
શું છે ગોળ? જલ્દી બોલ!' મમ્મી, પપ્પા અને દાદા-દાદી એકસાથે બોલી ઊઠયાં- 'ગોળ છે લાડુ, ગોળ છે બોર,
સૂરજ અને ચાંદ બંને ગોળ!'
The Earth is Round, Round!
A little girl named Veda. Along with studying, she plays, jumps, and enjoys herself. Veda is very clever-and just as mischievous too!
Whenever Papa goes to Mumbai for office work, he brings something new for Veda. This time, Papa brought a globe of the Earth and kept it on the table near the flower vase.
In the morning, Veda got ready to go to school and her eyes fell on the globe of the Earth. She immediately exclaimed, "Wow! Papa has brought such a nice round toy!"
In the afternoon, Veda came back from school. She picked up the globe and sat down to play. She spun it fast and laughed loudly!
Just then, Dada (grandfather) came from the swing. He made Veda sit in his lap and explained, "Look, dear, this is not a thing to play with, it is something to understand. This is called a globe of the Earth."
Then Dada started explaining in simple and easy language while rotating the globe.
Dada showed Veda the locations of countries like America and Canada. He also showed Australia and Singapore, where Sonu Maasi lives. He explained the vast boundaries of the oceans too. When Veda saw Dubai, where her aunt lives, she became very happy.
Now Veda began to enjoy reading the names of different countries on the globe.
After that, every day when Veda came home from school, she would sit in Dadaji's lap with the globe and play a new game.
Dada would say- "Find quickly… find quickly… where is Dubai? Find it!"
And Veda would quickly find Dubai. Then the game would continue again. Veda enjoyed playing this game a lot.
Veda's friends also came to her house, and she made them play the "find quickly… find quickly…" game. Her friends also enjoyed it very much.
Seeing Veda play like this, Dada and Dadi became so happy-you can't even imagine!
Now, wherever Veda saw something round, she remembered the globe of the Earth.
In the evening, Papa came home with sweet limes (mosambi). Again, Veda remembered the Earth. Papa also gave Veda and her group of friends a simple and easy explanation about the Earth.
He explained how day and night happen in a very simple way. He also told them how to take care of the Earth.
Then everyone sat down to eat. Mother served a laddoo in Veda's plate. Veda immediately said-
"Say quickly, say quickly,
What is round? Say quickly!"
Mother, Papa, and Dada-Dadi all spoke together-
"Round is the laddoo, round is the berry,
The sun and the moon are both round!"
