Smartness of Keshav
- “How can I help you look even more stylish today?”
- Ravi Ila Bhatt
O nce upon a time in the busy town of Ramnagar, there was a shoe shop owner named Kishorbhai. He was looking for a smart and skilled salesperson for his shop, so he placed an advertisement in the local newspaper.
Many people came for the interview, but no one impressed Kishorbhai. Some were too shy, some didn't know how to show the shoes properly, and some didn't even know how to talk to customers. By the end of the day, Kishorbhai was tired and disappointed.
Just then, one last candidate walked in-his name was Keshav. Kishorbhai was almost ready to close the shop, but he decided to give Keshav a chance.
He handed Keshav a pair of shoes and asked,
"Can you sell this pair for Rs. 500?"
Keshav smiled confidently and said,
"Sir, I can sell them for Rs. 700!"
Kishorbhai was surprised.
"If you can really do that," he said, "the job is yours-with a higher salary!"
Keshav nodded and stood near the counter, ready to prove himself.
Soon, a regular customer named Nandu entered the shop. Before Kishorbhai could greet him, Keshav stepped forward with a big smile and said,
"Welcome, sir! How can I help you look even more stylish today?"
Nandu was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and said he wanted to see some shoes. Keshav showed him many pairs and let him try a few. Nandu also browsed around on his own.
Finally, Keshav picked up the same pair Kishorbhai had given him and said,
"These are the best and most durable shoes in the entire shop. You look even more handsome wearing them!"
He added,
"Only two pairs like this are left!"
Nandu liked the shoes and asked,
"How much do they cost?"
Keshav replied,
"These were selling for Rs. 1000, but since only two pairs are left, we're offering them at a special price-just Rs. 700!"
Nandu hesitated.
"That's a bit too much for me."
Keshav smiled and said,
"Sir, these shoes are top quality. You won't find such shoes anywhere else. And the company won't make this model again until next Diwali!"
Still, Nandu said,
"I like them, but I don't have enough money right now," and he started to leave.
Keshav quickly said,
"Please don't worry about the money. You are a valued customer. If you like the shoes, you can pay the rest later."
Nandu paused.
Keshav gently asked,
"How much do you have right now?"
Nandu replied,
"Only Rs. 500."
Keshav said,
"That's perfect! Take the shoes, and you can pay the remaining ?200 later."
He packed the shoes, took the Rs. 500, and handed them over with a smile.
Nandu left the shop happily.
Keshav then handed the Rs. 500 to Kishorbhai.
Kishorbhai was shocked.
"What did you do? I told you to sell the shoes for Rs. 700! You gave them away for Rs. 500! That's a Rs. 200 loss!"
But Keshav calmly replied,
"Don't worry, sir. Nandu will come back with the remaining amount."
Kishorbhai shook his head.
"That's not going to happen!"
Keshav smiled and said,
"He has to return, sir… because I gave him two left-foot shoes!"
Kishorbhai stared at him, then burst out laughing.
And just then, Nandu returned-with the shoes and the remaining Rs. 200.
Keshav politely apologized,
"I'm so sorry, sir. That was my mistake."
Nandu smiled and said,
"It's okay!"
He took the correct pair of shoes and left happily.
Kishorbhai turned to Keshav with a big smile.
"You've got the job, my friend-and the higher salary too, just as I promised!"
