- એક વાર્તા... બે ભાષામાં!

- રાજાજી ચિડાયા. તેઓ કહે : 'સાધુ મહારાજ! આપણે તો સામે કિનારે જ જવું છે ને! કોઈ પણ હોડી પહોંચાડી દેશે. એમાં હોડીઓમાં દોષ શું જુઓ છો?''
રા જા ઘરડા થયા. થયું કે હવે ભગવાનનું નામ લેવું જોઈએ. એમણે એક પછી એક સાધુઓ, પંડિતો, ધર્મ-ગુરુઓ, મહંતોને બોલાવવા માંડયા. કહે કે,'મને ભગવાન ભજવાનો રસ્તો બતાવો. મારે ભગવાન પાસે જવું છે.'
પંડિતો પોતપોતાની રીતે રસ્તો બતાવતા હતા. પણ રાજાને એ રસ્તો નહોતો ગમતો. એ પંડિતોય નહોતા ગમતા.
પછી તો એ પંડિતોમાંય રાજાને દોષ દેખાવા લાગ્યા. 'આ પંડિત આવા છે, અને આ તેવો છે. એ વળી ભગવાન પાસે શું લઈ જશે ?'
એકવાર એક સાધુ આવ્યા. રાજાજીને કહે : 'ચાલો.'
'ક્યાં ?'
'લઈ જાઉં ભગવાનના ધામમાં.'
રાજાજી કહે : 'ચાલો.'
સાધુ તથા રાજાજી પહોંચ્યા ગંગા કિનારે.
સાધુ મહારાજ હોડી મંગાવવા લાગ્યા. એક પછી એક હોડી આવતી જાય. સાધુ તે નાપાસ કરતા જાય. તેઓ કહે : 'આ જૂની છે, આ મોટી છે. આ ખોટી છે,આ...'
જ્યારે સાધુએ આઠ-દસ હોડી નાપાસ કરી ત્યારે રાજાજી ચિડાયા. તેઓ કહે : 'સાધુ મહારાજ ! આપણે તો સામે કિનારે જ જવું છે ને ! કોઈ પણ હોડી પહોંચાડી દેશે. એમાં હોડીઓમાં દોષ શું જુઓ છો ?''
સાધુ મહારાજ રાજી થયા. કહે, 'બસ મહારાજ ! મારે આટલી જ વાત તમને કહેવાની હતી. ભગવાનનું નામ લેવું હોય તો લેવા જ માંડો. કોઈ પણ પંડિત કે સાધુ તમને એ જ વાત કહેવાનો છે, સામે પાર પહોંચવામાં પણ તમે તો સાધુઓના દોષ જોવામાંથી જ ઊંચા આવતા નથી !
પછી ઉમેર્યું અને રાજાજી, ભગવાનના નામ લેવામાં વળી મધ્યસ્થીની શી જરૂર છે ? ગુરૂ કે પંડિતની પણ શી જરૂર છે ? લેવા માંડો નામ એટલે જીવન સાર્થક.
સાધુએ રાજાજીને જબરું જ્ઞાાન આપી દીધું.
Look at the Shore, Not the Boat
T he King grew old. He felt that now he should take the name of God. He began calling monks, scholars, religious leaders, and priests one by one.
He said, "Show me the path to worship God. I want to go to God."
The scholars showed the path in their own ways. But the King did not like those paths.
He did not like those scholars either. Later, the King began to see faults in those scholars too. "This scholar is like this, and that one is like that. How will they take me to God?"
Once, a monk came. He said to the King: "Let's go."
"Where?"
"I will take you to the abode of God."
The King said: "Let's go."
The monk and the King reached the banks of the Ganges.
The monk began calling for a boat. One boat after another kept coming.
The monk kept rejecting them. He would say: "This is old, this is too big. This one is wrong, this..." When the monk had rejected eight to ten boats, the King got annoyed. He said: "Great Monk! We just want to go to the opposite shore, right? Any boat will get us there. Why are you looking for faults in the boats?"
The monk was pleased. He said: "That's it, Maharaj! This is all I wanted to tell you."
"If you want to take God's name, then just start taking it. Any scholar or monk is going to tell you the same thing. Even in reaching the other side, you never stop looking for the faults of the monks!"
Then he added: "And King, why is a middleman even needed to take God's name? Why is there a need for even a Guru or a scholar? Start taking the name and life becomes meaningful."
The monk gave the King a powerful lesson of wisdom.
