You might have heard the roaring sound of the ocean at the seashore, but did you know that a variety of fascinating sounds can be heard at the bottom of the sea?

The ocean floor is an entirely different world; there is no air around, only water. The aquatic creatures living in the sea make all kinds of sounds. Though aquatic creatures do not possess vocal cords, they manage to make sounds with little effort, even without air. These aquatic animals chirp, whistle, roar, and growl. Some fish create sounds by flapping their fins.

The blue whale lets out a scream lasting 10 to 15 seconds. On the other hand, the humpback whale sings a rhythmic song that lasts for 15 minutes; humpback whales are well-known for their melodious songs. Humpback whales from different ocean regions sing different songs. Many fish make sounds by grinding their teeth. Because sound travels faster through water than through air, scuba divers can hear these sounds very clearly.
