Devanshi vs. The Lazy Monster! 1 - image

- Tell Me : What to Do!

Hi! I'm almost 11 years old. My problem is that I just can't seem to get active! Honestly, I have a habit of sucking my thumb, and my mom says that's what makes me lazy. I've tried setting goals - like studying every day - but somehow that never really happens. I've even started swimming lessons because I want to grow taller, but that doesn't seem to be working either. What should I do to stop being lazy and become more active?

- Devanshi

O h, Devanshi! I think I just met someone who's in a friendly fight with her own Lazy Monster! Don't worry - every kid, every grown-up, and even superheroes have lazy days. (Yes, even Spider-Man probably has mornings when he doesn't feel like getting out of bed.) The trick is not to destroy the Lazy Monster, but to train it - like a pet - so that it behaves!

Let's look at your story piece by piece, shall we?

About that thumb-sucking:

You know what? Lots of kids do that without even realizing it! It's not laziness - it's just a comfort habit. It's your brain's way of saying, "Hey, I want to feel safe." But since you're growing up and becoming quite the young lady, maybe it's time to replace it with a new comfort habit.

Try this: keep a soft stress ball or a squishy toy nearby. Whenever you feel like sucking your thumb, grab that instead. Or make a tiny deal with yourself - "No thumb after 8 PM!" Slowly, you'll find the habit fading away.

About studying and goals:

You set goals - that's awesome! The problem isn't with your goal, Devanshi, it's with how big it sounds. "I'll study every day" feels like climbing Mount Everest barefoot! Try breaking it into baby steps.

Say this instead: "I'll study for just 15 minutes today."

That's all. Fifteen minutes! Once you start, you'll find it easier to go on. It's like dipping your toes into the swimming pool before diving in. Soon, your brain will say, "Hey, that wasn't hard at all!"

Tiny steps = Big victories.

About swimming and growing taller:

You, my dear, have a wonderful attitude - doing something to improve yourself. That's brilliant! But remember, swimming doesn't magically make you taller overnight. What it does make you is stronger, healthier, and more energetic - which means you'll start feeling active and happy. So even if the inches don't show up right away, the glow will! Keep swimming, and keep smiling under that water (just don't swallow it!).

The secret recipe to beat laziness:

Ready for it?

Here it comes - The Three-M Rule!

1. Move: Whenever you feel lazy, just move your body for one minute - stretch, dance, jump, or wiggle. Laziness hates movement!

2. Mini-goals: Promise yourself teeny-tiny goals. Like "I'll read one page," or "I'll clean one drawer." You'll end up doing more than you planned.

3. Magic of Music: Play your favorite happy song. Music can wake up even the sleepiest soul. (Warning: spontaneous dancing may occur!)

And remember - laziness isn't who you are, it's just a guest who visits sometimes. You can politely tell it, "Sorry, Lazy Monster, I'm busy being awesome today!"

So here's your new daily mantra, Devanshi:

"One small move, one small goal, one big smile - every single day!"

Trust me, the Lazy Monster won't stand a chance.
