એક વાર્તા... બે ભાષામાં!

- મારો ગણેશનો વેશ 

- 'અરે, પણ તમારા મોદક ક્યાં છે?' મારા મિત્રએ સાદ પાડયો. ત્યાં તો પાછળથી મારી સાથે ભણતી એક બેન થાળીમાં મારી મમ્મીએ બનાવેલાં મોદક લઈને આવી અને મારી સામે રાખ્યા.

મા રી શાળામાં વેશભૂષાનો એટલે કે ફેન્સી ડ્રેસનો કાર્યક્રમ હતો. મારે પણ કંઈક બનવું હતું. પણ મારે કોઈક નવો વેશ પહેરવો હતો. મેં મારી મમ્મીને પૂછયું કે હું શું બનું, મારે એવું કંઈક બનવું છે કે જે શાળામાં અત્યાર સુધી કોઈ ન બન્યું હોય. મમ્મીએ કીધું, 'છેલ્લાં બે વર્ષની વેશભૂષામાં જે જે વેશ ભજવવામાં આવ્યો હોય તેનું લિસ્ટ શાળાનાં તારાં સાહેબ લઇ આવ.' હું લાવ્યો. પછી મમ્મીએ તે લિસ્ટ પર નજર નાખી. ત્યાં તો પપ્પા ગણેશ ચતુર્થી  માટે માટીની નાનકડી ગણેશની મૂત લાવ્યા. મને વિચાર આવ્યો, હું ગણેશ બનું તો ! મેં મમ્મીને પૂછી જોયું કે શું તે લિસ્ટમાં ગણેશ છે? મમ્મીએ કહ્યું, 'ના, નથી.' બસ, પછી તો નક્કી થયું કે હું વેશભૂષામાં ગણેશનો વેશ લઈશ. 

સૂંઢ માટે રબરની પાઇપ ગોતી કાઢી. મોટું પેટ બતાવવા ઓશીકું શોધી કાઢયું. હાથી જેવાં કાન પેપરમાંથી બનાવ્યાં. થર્મોકોલમાંથી આગળના દાંત બનાવ્યાં અને આ બધાં પર જરૂરિયાત મુજબ રંગ કર્યો. જનોઈ, પીતાંબર, મુગટ, તે બધું તો મળી ગયું. ગણપતિદાદાની સવારી માટે પ્લાસ્ટિકનાં રમકડાંનો મૂષક પણ મળી ગયો. મેં મમ્મીને કીધું કે મને સાચા મોદક બનાવી આપજે, જેને પછી અમે પ્રસાદ તરીકે વહેચીશું. આખી યોજના બની ગઈ. પણ મને હજુ પણ કંઈક વધારે કરવું હતું. મેં મારી દાદીને પૂછી જોયું. તેણે કહ્યું કે આ બધાં સાથે તારે કંઈક ગીત જેવું ગાવું જોઈએ અને પ્રેક્ષકમાંથી કોઈકને સંમિલિત કરવાં જોઈએ. આ વાત મને ગમી ગઈ. મેં અને મારા મિત્ર એ એક યોજના પણ બનાવી. 

બધું નક્કી થયું. શાળામાં વેશભૂષાને દિવસે જ્યારે મારો વારો આવ્યો ત્યારે એક પછી એક, આ પ્રમાણે મેં કર્યું. ચાલતાં ચાલતાં મેં મંચ પર પ્રવેશ કર્યો -  

મૂષક મારી સવારી છે પણ હું ચાલતો આવું છું,

ભાદરવાની સુદ ચોથે મારું સ્થાન જમાવું છે. 

આમ કહીને હું મંચ ઉપરના બાજોઠ પર બેસી ગયો. નક્કી કર્યું હતું એ પ્રમાણે મારા મિત્રએ કહ્યું,  'ગણપતિ દાદા, તમારો મૂષક તો નથી, ક્યાં ગયો?' નાટકીય રીતે મેં મૂષકને બોલાવ્યો - 

વેશભૂષાના આ મંચ પર મૂષકજી તમે આવો ને, 

અહીં રાખેલાં મોદકને, મન ભરી તમે ખાવોને

પાછળથી કોઈ મારી આગળ મૂષક મૂકી ગયું. 'અરે, પણ તમારા મોદક ક્યાં છે?' મારા મિત્રએ સાદ પાડયો. ત્યાં તો પાછળથી મારી સાથે ભણતી એક બેન થાળીમાં મારી મમ્મીએ બનાવેલાં મોદક લઈને આવી અને મારી સામે રાખ્યા. મેં તેને કીધું -

તું પણ લે બેન, સમજી જા, આ જ છે પ્રસાદી મારી,

મારાં મોદકની પ્રતિક્ષા તો કરે દુનિયાનાં સૌ નરનારી. 

તેણે એક લાડવો લીધો.?ગણેશના વેશમાં મેં પણ લીધો. મંચ પરથી જ મેં મારા મિત્રને બોલાવ્યો અને કહ્યું કે હવે આ બાકીનાં મોદક પ્રસાદ તરીકે બધાંને વહેંચી દે. પ્રસાદ આપતા તે બોલતો ગયો -

લેજો લેજો પ્રસાદ સહુએ ગણેશજીની કૃપા આમાં,

ઘઉં ઘી ગોળ ચારોળી ખસખસ બધું હાજર છે તેમાં. 

બધાંને બહુ મજા આવી. બધાંને કંઈક નવીન લાગ્યું. તેની મને બહુ ખુશી થઈ. પછી છેલ્લે નક્કી કર્યું હતું તે પ્રમાણે મારા મિત્રએ કહ્યું - 

લંબોદર ગણપતિ વિનાયક 

વિઘ્નહર્તા છો તમે પ્રભુ, 

સિદ્ધિવિનાયક મંગલમૂત ગૌરીસુત છો તમે વિભુ. 

પછી બધાં સાથે બોલ્યાં -

ગણપતિ બાપ્પા મોરિયા, ઘીના લાડુ ચોરીયા...

તાળીઓના ગડગડાટ વચ્ચે મારો વેશ પૂરો થયો. ઘરે આવીને એને દાદીને, અને બીજાં બધાંને પણ, મારી વેશભૂષાની વાત જણાવી. મારાં શિક્ષકે ફોટા તો મમ્મીને મોબાઈલમાં મોકલી આપ્યા જ હતા. જોઈને બધા ખુશ થયા.  

My Ganesh Costume

I n my school, there was a fancy dress (costume) competition. I wanted to be something special, something nobody had ever been before. I asked my mother what I should dress as. She told me to get a list from the school of all the costumes worn in the last two years by the students. I brought the list, and after looking at it, my mother saw that my father had brought a small clay Ganesh idol for Ganesh Chaturthi.

Then I thought, why not dress as Ganesh? I asked my mother if Ganesh was on that list. She said no. So it was decided-I would wear a Ganesh costume.

For the trunk, we took a rubber pipe. To make a big belly, we found an old cloth bundle. Elephant-like ears were made from paper. The front teeth were made from thermocol, and everything was painted as needed. The dhoti, yellow cloth, forehead mark, they all came together. For Ganpati's ride, we even found a plastic toy mouse.

I told my mother to make real modaks (a sweet) to share as prasad. The whole plan was ready. But I still wanted to do more. I asked my grandmother, and she said I should sing a song and involve the audience somehow. I liked that idea. My friends and I made a plan.

Everything was ready. On the fancy dress day at school, when it was my turn, I did the following:

As I walked onto the stage, I said,

"My ride is the mouse, 

but I am walking along,

On the fourth day of Bhadrapad, 

I will take my place strong."

Then I sat on the edge of the stage. As planned, my friend asked, "Ganpati Dada, where is your mouse?" Theatrically, I called out,

"Mouseji, please come to this fancy dress stage,

Eat the modaks placed here with all your heart."

Suddenly, someone placed a mouse in front of me. My friend asked, "Where are your modaks?" At that moment, a girl from my school brought a plate of modaks made by my mother and placed it in front of me. I told her, "Please have some, sister. Understand that this is my prasad. Everyone in this world waits for my modaks."

She took one sweet, and dressed as Ganesh, I took one too. From the stage, I called my friend and said, "Now distribute the remaining modaks to everyone as prasad." While giving the prasad, he shouted,

"Take it, take it, prasad for everyone, with Ganeshji's blessings in it. Flour, ghee, jaggery, sugar, sesame, all are present in it."

Everyone enjoyed it very much. They all found it new and special. This made me very happy. Finally, as planned, my friend said,

"O Lambodar Ganpati, Vinayak, remover of obstacles,

Siddhivinayak, auspicious form, Gaurisut, you are divine."

Then everyone joined in saying,

"Ganpati Bappa Morya, thieves of ghee laddoos…"

Amid thunderous applause, my costume performance ended. When I got home, I told my grandmother and everyone else about my costume story. My teachers had also sent photos to my mother's mobile. Everyone was very happy to see them.
