Wangchuk started the seven-day climatic fast on June 18 at NDS stadium, Leh in support of safeguarding Ladakh's fragile mountain ecology & its indigenous people. The fast was initially planned for seven days but he extended it to two more days, ending it on June 26.

Wangchuk’s climatic fast was the second time in the past six months. Earlier this February, Wangchuk sat on a five-day hunger strike demanding the inclusion of the union territory (UT) in the sixth schedule of the constitution. Thousands of people then accompanied him as he completed his fasting in the sub-zero temperatures.
Wangchuk is known for his inventive ideas and he has also set up the Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), which gives training to system-failed children.
