Why is Water Sprinkled on a Freshly Built Wall?

In new construction, water is sprinkled on a freshly built wall to keep it wet for two to three days. Water is also sprinkled on any cement plaster.

Since the mixture of cement, gravel, and water automatically becomes stone-hard when it dries, what is the reason for pouring water on it? There is a special relationship between cement and water. Scientists call it exothermic. As soon as water falls on cement, hydration begins, water is absorbed, and the cement starts becoming hard. Initially, this process is fast, but it slows down when the water dries up. The longer this process continues, the more strongly the cement sets. Moisture is necessary to keep this hydration process going continuously. If there is insufficient moisture, the cement breaks apart into small pebbles. It is necessary for the hydration process to continue for two to three days, which is why water must be sprinkled to keep it continuously wet for two to three days.
