The Most Venomous Among Insects: The Scorpion

With its six legs and curved tail, the scorpion is an insect that causes instant panic upon sight. There are approximately 1,700 species of scorpions found worldwide. All types of scorpions possess a venomous sting. They range in length from 9 millimeters to 23 centimeters.

The scorpion is a cold-blooded creature. It is most commonly found in regions with an average temperature of 20°C to 35°C. A scorpion's body is protected by a hard exoskeleton. Because its shell contains fluorescent properties, it appears to glow.

Powerful Sensors: Scorpions have microscopic hairs on their legs and tail that act as powerful sensors. If anything touches these hairs, it stings immediately.

The Sting: It can rotate its tail in all four directions, and there is a sharp stinger at the very end of it. A scorpion's venom can kill small animals like mice instantly.

Anatomy: While a scorpion has six walking legs, it also has two front pincers (like claws) which it uses to catch its prey.

Diet: Scorpions feed on insects, mice, and lizards. Once it eats a hearty meal, it can survive for many months without food.

Molting: A scorpion sheds the outer shell of its body periodically. Throughout its lifespan, it sheds its shell and grows a new one about eight times.
