The Most Important Language of All

- But we cannot decide who is the most important language. So, will you help us find out?

Veerajba R. Dodiya

O nce upon a time, there was a school famous for its unique teaching methods. The students learned many languages, as well as arithmetic,

science, coding, sports, and art. They all worked hard and excelled in their studies.

One afternoon, all the Languages gathered in an empty classroom to settle a difficult question: "Who is the most important language of all?"

English spoke first, puffing out its chest. "I am spoken all over the world! I connect everyone, so I must be the most important."

Gujarati scoffed, "Tu toh pardeshi bhasha chhe, pan hu Gujaratni matrubhasha chhu etle hu sauthi mahaan chhu." (But you are a foreign

language, and I am the mother tongue of Gujarat, so I am the greatest.)

Hindi declared, "Parantu main toh Bharat ki rajbhasha hoon, toh main sabse mahaan hoon." (But I am India's official language, so I am the

greatest.)

French, in a stylish tone, said, "Je suis la langue tendance à apprendre, donc je suis la langue la plus importante de toutes." (I am the trendy

language to learn, so I am the most important language of all.)

Sanskrit stated with ancient wisdom, "Parantu aham Bharatasya prachintamasu bhashasu anyatamah asmi, atah aham sarvadhikam

mahattvapurnah asmi." (But I am one of the oldest languages of India, so I am the most important.)

Soon, all the Languages were quarrelling, each trying to prove it was better than the others.

Suddenly, the language teacher entered the classroom. "What is all this quarrelling about?" she asked kindly.

The Languages explained the reason for their argument. Then, Urdu spoke up softly, "Lekin hum yeh faisla nahin kar sakte ki sab se aham zaban

kaun hai. Toh kya aap yeh janne mein hamari madad karengi?" (But we cannot decide who is the most important language. So, will you help us

find out?)

The teacher became thoughtful for a moment and then smiled. "Well, in my view, all languages are equally important."

The Languages looked surprised. Tamil asked, "Anal atu eppati cattiyamakum?" (But how can that be possible?)

The teacher explained, "Each of you is unique. The purpose of any language is to help people express their feelings and share their ideas. You all

help people communicate. The world is full of diversity, and having a diversity of languages is part of that magic. Every group of people uses a

different language, and that gives the language its own special identity."

The Languages nodded their heads in agreement, understanding at last.

English said, "Now we see. Each language has its own specialty, and we should not quarrel about our uniqueness."

And so, the Languages lived together in the school, respecting each other, happily ever after.

Moral

Never underestimate others, because everyone has their own special importance.
