The Lantern in the Lake .

- Shyamal Vasoya
I n a quiet little village nestled between a whispering forest and a shimmering lake, lived a young girl named Anaya. She was known for her kindness, her curious spirit, and the special lantern she carried everywhere-an old heirloom from her grandmother.
People in the village often said, "This lantern will only glow when it feels true wonder." But no one had seen it shine in many years.
Every evening, Anaya would sit by the lake, whispering stories to the wind and floating paper boats into the calm water. She loved the peaceful silence, the stars, and the sound of the water gently kissing the shore.
One misty twilight, something unusual caught her eye-an injured swan limping near the reeds. Without hesitation, Anaya rushed to help. Wrapping the bird carefully in her shawl, she brought it home.
Over the next few days, Anaya cared for the swan with all her heart. She fed it, kept it warm, and sang sweet songs as it rested beside a flickering candle. The villagers watched quietly, touched by her gentle efforts.
When the swan was strong enough to return to the wild, Anaya carried it back to the lake. Under a sky full of stars, she let it go. The swan paused for a moment, looked back-almost as if nodding "thank you"-and then gracefully glided away.
And then… something magical happened.
Her lantern, quiet for years, flickered-then suddenly burst into a warm, golden glow.
The villagers, stunned and silent, gathered around. The legendary lantern was glowing-not with electricity or oil, but with love. The light of selfless kindness.
From that day on, Anaya's lantern never went dark. It became a symbol of goodness, passed from heart to heart. And every full moon, the people of the village would gather by the lake, light little lanterns of their own, and float them on the water-each one carrying a wish, a dream, or a gentle thank you.
