The Amazing World of Tiny Trees: Bonsai

You’ve probably seen huge trees like banyan, neem, and peepal. But imagine seeing small, pot-grown versions of those trees—it would be so fun! In Japan, people have practiced the art of growing miniature versions of large trees in their homes for many years. This art is called Bonsai.

To grow bonsai trees, first, a seed is planted in soil. Once it sprouts and grows into a small plant, it is carefully uprooted and replanted in a pot. At this stage, the roots are trimmed to keep them short—this itself is a special skill. The plant is then tied using thin wires in the pot. This restricts its growth and keeps it small. With the right fertilizers and care, a tiny tree grows in the pot. In Japan, bonsai trees are popular as decorative plants in homes.
