સમાનતા અને સમજૂતી .

- 'ભાઈ અલાદ્દીન ! વાત એવી છે કે આ પરિશ્રમ નગર છે. અહીં બધાં જ માનવી પરિશ્રમી છે. તેઓ કોઈ બીજાની મહેનત સ્વીકારતા નથી. પોતાનું કામ પોતે જ કરે છે. જાત-પરિશ્રમથી ગામ સંતુષ્ટ છે.'

જે જોઈએ તે બધું જ અલાદ્દીને મેળવી લીધું. એનો દીવો હવે નકામો થઈ પડયો. દીવો ભૂલમાં ઘસાઈ જતો તો તરત જીન ઊભો થઈ જતો. બોલી ઊઠતો 'બોલો માલિક, શું કામ કરું ?'

અલાદ્દીને કહેવું પડતું : 'કંઈ જ નહિ.'

કંટાળીને રાક્ષસ જીન કહેતો : 'હું હ્ ! ત્યારે મને બોલાવ્યો શું કામ ?'

અલાદ્દીનને પણ થયું કે, 'હવે આ દીવાનો મારે પણ કોઈ ખપ નથી. મારું ઘણું ભલું થયું, હવે બીજા કોઈનું ભલું થતું હોય તો ભલે થતું.'

એમ કહી તે જાદુઈ દીવો લઈને એક નગરમાં ગયો. કહેવા લાગ્યો : 'હું અલાદ્દીન છું. મારે મારો જાદૂઈ દીવો કોઈને આપી દેવો છે. એ દીવાના ચમત્કાર વિષે તો જાણો છો ને ? એમાંથી જીન પ્રગટ થતાં જ તમે જે માગો તે લાવી આપે છે... તમે જે કહો તે એ કરી દે છે.'

આશ્ચર્ય !

કોઈએ અલાદ્દીનની વાતમાં રસ દાખવ્યો નહિ.

અલાદ્દીન આગળ ને આગળ ચાલતો જ ગયો, પણ કોઈ તેનો દીવો લેવા તૈયાર ન થયું.

જ્યારે ગામ પૂરું થવા આવ્યું ત્યારે અલાદ્દીને પૂછ્યું : 'શું તમે લોકો મને ઓળખતા નથી ? શું તમને મારા જીનમાં વિશ્વાસ નથી ? શું તમને એની શક્તિમાં શ્રદ્ધા નથી ?'

લોકો બોલી ઊઠયા : 'અમે તને ઓળખીએ છીએ અલાદ્દીન, તારા જાદુઈ દીવા વિષે અમે સાંભળ્યું છે. અલાદ્દીન, તારા જીન-રાક્ષસની શક્તિઓનો પણ અમને ખ્યાલ છે ! પણ... અમારે એની જરૂર નથી.'

હવે અલાદ્દીન આભો જ બન્યો : 

'જરૂર નથી? શાની, જાદૂઈ દીવાની ? કોની, જીન રાક્ષસની?'

લોકો કહે : 'કોઈની જ નહિ.'

અલાદ્દીને ચક્તિ થઈ જઈને પૂછ્યું : 'કોઈની જરૂર નથી ? કારણ ?'

હસીને ગામનો મુખી કહે : 'ભાઈ અલાદ્દીન ! વાત એવી છે કે આ પરિશ્રમ નગર છે. અહીં બધાં જ માનવી પરિશ્રમી છે. તેઓ કોઈ બીજાની મહેનત સ્વીકારતા નથી. પોતાનું કામ પોતે જ કરે છે. જાત-પરિશ્રમથી ગામ સંતુષ્ટ છે. ગામ પાસે જોઈએ તેટલું અનાજ છે. રહેવા માટે ઘર છે, રમવા તથા સહેલ કરવા મેદાનો તથા પાદર છે. ગામના લોકો ભેગા થઈને પુલ બાંધે છે, નહેરો ખોદે છે. બંધો બનાવી દે છે...'

અલાદ્દીન કહે : 'મારો જીન તમને મહેલ બનાવી દેશે.'

મુખી કહે : 'અમે અમારા ઘરમાં જ સુખી છીએ અને મહેલની અમારે જરૂર નથી. કેમ કે કોઈ એક પાસે મહેલ હોય અને બીજાઓ ઝૂંપડામાં રહેનારા ગરીબ હોય એ વાત અમને પસંદ નથી. જ્યારે મહેલ બનાવીશું ત્યારે બધાંને માટે મહેલો બનાવીશું.'

આ સાંભળીને રાક્ષસ બોલી ઊઠયો: 

'અરે, આ તે કેવી દુનિયા છે. કોઈ મને સ્વીકારવા તૈયાર નથી. હું ક્યાં જાઉં ?'

'એ વિષે વિચારીશું.' કહીને અલાદ્દીને જીનને દીવાથી છૂ કરી દીધો.

ત્યારનો એ રાક્ષસ પાછો કદી દેખાયો જ નથી.

Sameness and Understanding

A laddin had gotten everything he ever wanted. Now, the magic lamp was of no use to him.

Even if someone rubbed the lamp by mistake, the genie would appear instantly and say:

"Yes, Master! What do you wish?"

But Aladdin would reply, "Nothing at all."

Tired of this, the genie would complain,

"Hmph! Then why did you call me?"

Aladdin also started to feel that he didn't really need the lamp anymore.

He thought:

"This lamp has done enough good for me. Now, if it can help someone else, that's fine."

So, Aladdin took the magic lamp to a town.

He started saying:

"I am Aladdin. I want to give away my magic lamp. You know its powers, right? A genie comes out and gives you anything you wish for!"

Surprise!

No one showed any interest in Aladdin's offer.

He walked further and further into the town, but nobody was ready to take the lamp.

As he reached the edge of the village, he asked:

"Don't you people know who I am? Don't you believe in my genie? Don't you trust his powers?"

The villagers replied:

"We know you, Aladdin. We've heard about your magic lamp. We also know about your genie's powers. But… we don't need any of it."

Aladdin was stunned.

"You don't need it? What? The magic lamp? The genie?"

The people said:

"No, we don't need anything from anyone."

Shocked, Aladdin asked:

"You don't need anything at all? Why?"

The village chief smiled and said:

"Dear Aladdin, this is the village of Hard Work. Everyone here believes in working hard. They don't take help for things they can do on their own. Everyone does their own work. Our village is happy through our own efforts. We have enough food, homes to live in, fields to play in, and open spaces to relax. When needed, we build bridges, dig canals, and make dams together."

Aladdin said:

"But my genie can build you a palace!"

The chief replied:

"We are happy in our homes. We don't need palaces. Because we don't like a world where one person lives in a palace while others live in small huts. If we ever build palaces, we'll build them for everyone."

Hearing this, the genie exclaimed,

"Oh no! What kind of world is this? No one wants me! Where do I go now?"

Aladdin calmly replied:

"We'll think about that."

And with that, he gently rubbed the lamp and made the genie disappear.

Since then, the genie has never been seen again.
