Watson and Crick, the scientists who discovered the double helix structure of DNA, mentioned that a female scientist named Rosalind Franklin made a significant contribution to their discovery. However, very few people know about this female scientist.

Rosalind, who conducted unique research in many fields like Physics, Biophysics, Chemistry, and Biology, was born on July 25, 1920, in Notting Hill, Britain. Her father was a professor of science. Rosalind finished her secondary education at St. Paul’s Girls’ High School in London and pursued higher studies at Newnham College, Cambridge.

Apart from important research on DNA and the Polio virus, she became world-famous for her research in X-ray crystallography. Her research regarding coal and graphite was also notable.

During a trip to America for research in 1956, she fell ill with cancer. She had served at the National Institute of Health in America. She passed away in March/April 1958 at the age of just 38.
