Lily and the Secret of the Sleeping Dragon

Tears rolled down her cheeks as she leaned against the tree trunk. Suddenly, the trunk behind her split open, and she found herself free-falling into a deep tunnel that seemed never-ending.

It was late at night. Moonlight streamed through the gap in the curtains. In the quiet stillness, Lily had a strange dream. She saw a girl—one who looked very sad.

“Help me! Help me!” the girl cried.

Then she suddenly said to Lily, “You will find me in the book named The Realm of Magic.”

With that, the mysterious girl disappeared.

Lily woke up, trembling. Cold sweat covered her face. Was the dream real? Or was it just her imagination playing tricks on her? she wondered. Confused and curious, she decided to find out the next morning.

The sun shone brightly through the windows as Lily quietly got ready. She couldn’t stop thinking about the dream. Finally, she decided to search for the book in the library. She knew the library had all kinds of books—if the book existed, she would surely find it there.

That afternoon, warm sunlight filtered through the tall windows of the library as Lily searched through the endless shelves. After nearly an hour of tireless searching, she finally found it.

The book looked old and dusty.

With trembling hands, Lily opened it. To her shock, she saw a picture of the same girl from her dream. She turned the page and found a small pop-up door.

Curious, she gently opened it.

Suddenly, a bright ray of light blinded her. She felt herself being pulled into the book.

She kept falling and falling, her eyes tightly shut. It felt endless. Then, at last, her feet touched solid ground.

Lily slowly opened her eyes. She was standing in front of a huge, ancient tree. The place looked unfamiliar, and no one was around.

“Help! Help!” she called out several times, but no one answered.

Feeling hopeless, she sat down under the cool shade of the tree. She wanted to return home, but she had no idea how.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as she leaned against the tree trunk.

Suddenly, the trunk behind her split open, and she found herself free-falling into a deep tunnel that seemed never-ending.

A faint light below warned her that she was about to land. She hit the ground gently, though she felt dizzy for a moment.

When she looked around, she gasped.

She was in a strange, beautiful land covered in soft green grass. A crystal-clear stream flowed nearby. As she walked forward, she saw something unbelievable—fairies fluttering through the air!

Further ahead were magical creatures—pixies, elves, gnomes, unicorns, and many more she had only read about in storybooks.

She wanted to stop and meet them, but she remembered the crying girl.

What if she really needs help? Lily thought.

So she moved on.

After searching for a long time, Lily finally found the girl. She was sitting under a tree, crying.

When the girl looked up and saw Lily, her face lit up.

“Finally, you’re here!” she exclaimed. “My name is Luna. I came here through the book two weeks ago—just like you.”

“My name is Lily. What happened? Why were you crying?” Lily asked.

Luna sighed. “I was exploring this land when I saw a sleeping dragon. A harp was lying beside it. I didn’t know how to play it, but I tried. The sound was loud and unpleasant. The dragon woke up and started breathing fire everywhere! The magical creatures took me to their Queen. She ordered me to put the dragon back to sleep by playing the harp properly. Only then will she tell me how to return home.”

Lily smiled. “I know how to play the harp. I’ll play it—and then we can both go home!”

Together, they went in search of the dragon.

The dragon was tied up with heavy chains, and the harp lay on the other side. Lily carefully crossed over, picked up the harp, and began to play.

The music was soft and melodious. It floated gently through the air like a lullaby. Slowly, the dragon’s fiery eyes closed. Within moments, it was fast asleep, snoring loudly.

Lily stopped playing and looked at Luna.

“You did it!” Luna whispered excitedly.

They hurried to the Queen’s palace. It was magnificent, glowing as if covered in glitter. Guard Fairies stood at the entrance.

Inside, everything shimmered like a dream.

They explained everything to the Queen. She looked out of the window to make sure the dragon was asleep. Seeing that it was, she nodded.

“Very well,” she said. “Return to the tree through which you entered. Say the magic words: ‘Open, Door of the Magical Realm!’ The door will appear. You will find two passageways—choose the second one, and you will return to your world.”

They followed her instructions. At the tree, they spoke the magic words. A glowing door appeared.

They chose the second passage—the one with stairs.

After about fifteen minutes of climbing, they found themselves back in their own world.

Both girls walked together for some distance, smiling. They had become close friends—Luna was happy to return home, and Lily was proud she had helped someone.

At a corner, they said goodbye.

Lily returned home exhausted and fell asleep immediately.

The next morning, she woke up confused. Was it all a dream?

She rushed to the library.

She found the book and opened it quickly. There was Luna’s picture. Lily smiled. She turned the pages and saw descriptions of the magical creatures she had seen.

Then, her heart skipped a beat.

There was her own picture—and her adventure written beside it.

It was real.

Lily closed the book gently, her heart full of joy. She knew she had experienced something magical—something she would cherish forever.

And perhaps, someday, she might open that door again.
