- વિશ્વના વિજ્ઞાનીઓ
The railway steam engine is considered a revolutionary invention. After its discovery, scientists made many improvements and created railway engines that ran on petrol and diesel, followed by the invention of the electric engine that runs on electricity. Electric engines run by drawing power from overhead wires. The scientist named Granville Woods had a significant contribution to the modernization of railway trains.
Granville T. Woods was born on April 23, 1856, in the city of Columbus, Ohio, USA. Born into a poor family, Granville worked in a blacksmith's shop during the day and attended night school. After completing his studies, he took a job as a fireman on the Nebraska railroad. While working, he continued his college education and became an engineer.
In 1878, Granville was appointed as the chief engineer on a British ship. Granville thoroughly studied the railway train and found uses for electricity in it. His main contribution was connecting railway stations via telegram using the train tracks. He developed the technology to run a train by drawing electricity from nearby wires and also invented the overhead wire technology. Granville is called the "Second Edison" of the world of science. He passed away on January 30, 1910.
