How can I build my self-confidence? .

H i, I'm Dhruvi. I'm a 9-year-old girl . I feel shy when talking to other students in my class. Because of this, I find it hard to make new friends. What should I do? How can I build my self-confidence?

Dear Dhruvi,
First of all, thank you for sharing your thoughts so honestly. That takes a lot of courage-and guess what? That's already the first sign that you do have confidence inside you!
Feeling shy is totally okay. Many kids (and even grown-ups!) feel the same way. It just means you're thoughtful and sensitive. But you can definitely learn to be more confident-and have fun while doing it!
Here are some cheerful steps just for you:
1. Start with a smile
A simple smile is like magic. It shows others that you're friendly and open. Next time you're in class, try smiling at the person sitting next to you. You don't even have to say anything at first! A smile is the first hello.
2. Try "small talks"
You don't need to say something big or fancy. You can start with small things like, "Hi! Did you do the homework?" or "I like your pencil box!" These tiny conversations open the door to friendships. Most kids are happy when someone talks to them kindly.
3. Practice at home
Stand in front of a mirror and talk to yourself like you're talking to a new friend. You can say, "Hi, my name is Dhruvi! I love drawing and I enjoy playing games!" Keep practicing. It really works-and it's fun too!
4. Join in group activities
If your school has clubs, games, art activities, or library time-go join in! Doing something you enjoy with others makes talking so much easier. You'll already have something in common!
5. Remember your superpowers
You are kind. You are smart. You are thoughtful. That's amazing! Sometimes we forget how special we are, but if you remind yourself every day, your confidence will grow-just like a flower in sunshine.
6. Mistakes are okay
Don't be afraid of saying something wrong or being laughed at. Even the best speakers mess up sometimes. Laugh it off, learn from it, and try again. That's how everyone grows.
7. Set tiny goals
One day, say hi to one classmate. Another day, ask someone about their favorite cartoon. Slowly, these small steps will lead you to BIG changes.
8. Talk to your teacher
Teachers are there to help. You can tell your class teacher that you're trying to be more confident. They will definitely support you-and maybe even help you connect with others.
And finally, remember this:
You're not alone, Dhruvi. Many children feel shy at first, but with small steps, a big heart, and a little bit of sparkle-you can build your confidence and make lovely new friends.
Just be YOU-sweet, brave, and full of dreams.
I'm cheering for you! You've got this!
