Exams vs. Superkids: Who Wins?

- Tell Me
- What to Do!
- Exams arrive like surprise guests—loud, demanding, and slightly scary. But guess what? They are not monsters; they are just check-ups for your learning. In this special column, Uncle Fix-It listens to three bright young minds and helps them turn exam fear into exam cheer!
Hello Uncle Fix-It,
My name is Viha Ankit Patel, and I study in Standard 4. It’s exam time, and I hardly get any free time now. I feel stressed all the time. How can I get rid of exam stress?
- Viha Ankit Patel
Hello Uncle Fix-It,
My name is Raahi Shah from Ahmedabad. I study throughout the year, but when exams arrive, I suddenly feel blank, as if I don’t know anything. I make a to-do list every day, but I can’t stick to it. I give up easily. Please help me.

Hello Jingle Jingle Zagmag,
My exams are coming closer, and my fear is increasing day by day. Because of this, I am unable to focus on my studies. Please suggest a solution.
- Shiv
First of all—big hug to all three of you.
If you feel stress, blankness, or fear before exams, congratulations… you are perfectly normal human beings!
Let’s solve this one by one.
1. “I Feel Stressed All the Time!” - For Viha
Viha, stress happens when your brain thinks: “Oh no! Big test! Danger!”
But here’s the secret: exams are not danger. They are just questions printed on paper. The paper cannot chase you. It cannot bite you. It cannot shout at you.
Try This:
g Study for 25 minutes.
g Take a 5-minute fun break.
g Repeat.
During breaks, stretch, drink water, jump like a kangaroo, or dance for one song. Your brain loves short breaks.
Also, sleep well. A sleepy brain feels more stressed. A rested brain says, “Bring it on!”
And remember: You don’t need to study 24 hours. You need to study smart hours.
2. “My Brain Goes Blank!” – For Raahi
Raahi, this is called exam panic. Your brain is full… but fear presses the “pause” button.
When you panic, your body releases something called cortisol (the stress chemical). It blocks memory temporarily. That’s why you feel blank.
But here’s the twist: your memory is still there!
The Anti-Blank Formula:
Before starting the paper:
1. Take 3 slow breaths.
2. Smile slightly (yes, really!).
3. Read all questions calmly.
Start with the easiest question. When you write one answer successfully, your brain says, “Oh! We know things!” and the memory returns.
About Your
To-Do Lists
Ah, the famous to-do list problem!
The issue is not laziness. The issue is overloading.
If your list looks like:
g Finish entire Science book
g Revise full Maths
g Write 3 essays
g Become genius
Of course you’ll quit!
Instead, make a Tiny List:
g Revise Chapter 3 (30 mins)
g Solve 5 sums
g Learn 5 definitions
That’s it.
When you complete it, tick it proudly.
Success creates motivation - not the other way round.
3. “Fear Is Growing Every Day!”
- For Shiv
Shiv, fear grows when imagination grows.
If you keep thinking:
“What if I fail?”
“What if I forget?”
“What will people say?”
Fear becomes a giant balloon.
So here’s what you do: Pop the balloon with facts.
Ask yourself:
g Have I studied something ? (Yes.)
g Have I passed before? (Yes.)
g Is this exam the final exam of my life? (No!)
Fear hates logic.
Also, don’t wait to “feel motivated” to start studying. Start studying for 10 minutes. Action reduces fear.
Turn Exams Into
a Game
Here’s a fun trick for all three of you:
Pretend you are a detective ??? solving mystery questions.
Each correct answer = one solved clue.
Each exam = one level unlocked.
Exams are levels, not life decisions.
The Golden Rules for All Exam Warriors
1. Study in small blocks.
2. Sleep 7–8 hours.
3. Drink water.
4. Move your body daily.
5. Start with easy questions in the exam.
6. Make small to-do lists.
7. Talk to parents/teachers if fear feels too heavy.
And most important:
Marks are numbers.
You are not a number.
Final Words
Dear Viha, Raahi, and Shiv,
You are not scared because you are weak. You are scared because you care. That’s a good sign.
One day, you will laugh at how seriously you took these exams.
Right now, take a deep breath. You are prepared. You are capable.
And exams? They are just paper.
Now go show them who’s boss. All the best!
