Can't Focus on Studies…! .

- Tell Me What to Do!
H i, I'm Pahal. I'm 13 years old. I have a problem - I just can't focus on my studies. Every time I sit down to study, something or the other distracts me. My mom keeps telling me to concentrate, and I really do try… but I always end up getting distracted. Please tell me something that can help me stay focused and not lose concentration.

Hey Pahal,
First of all, relax - you're not broken, you're just a 13-year-old human with a brain that loves shiny distractions. Welcome to the club. Even adults (including the ones telling you to "just focus") sometimes end up watching reel number 57 instead of doing their work.
Now, let's crack the code.
1. Your brain is not a switch
When you sit to study, your brain doesn't instantly become "serious and studious." It's more like warming up before a cricket match. So, start with a 5-minute warm-up: read something light from your textbook or do a small, easy problem. This tells your brain, "Okay, game mode on."
2. The 'Magnet Zone' trick
Pick a spot in your house that is only for studying. No lying on the bed with books - that's a trap, because your brain associates the bed with sleeping or scrolling. Create a little "study corner" with your pens, water bottle, and zero distractions. When you sit there, it's like entering a "magnet zone" - you're there only for studies, so your brain slowly learns to focus there.
3. The 25-minute deal
Tell yourself, "I'm just going to study for 25 minutes, and then I'll take a 5-minute break." This is called the Pomodoro technique (fancy Italian name, but works for everyone). In those 25 minutes, keep your phone far away - ideally in another room, guarded by your mom like she's protecting the Kohinoor diamond.
4. Make it a game
Turn boring study sessions into challenges. "Let's see if I can solve 10 math problems before the timer runs out." Or "Can I finish reading this chapter before my chai gets cold?" The brain loves small competitions - even with yourself.
5. Respect your breaks
Don't study for 3 hours straight and expect miracles. Take short breaks - stretch, drink water, walk around. But… don't fall into the "break = Instagram rabbit hole" trap. Set a timer for breaks too.
6. Reward yourself
After you complete your target, give yourself a little treat - watch your favourite show, eat a snack, or just chill. Your brain will start associating focus with fun rewards. And remember: focus is a skill. You train it, just like muscles. The more you practice, the easier it gets.
So, next time you sit to study, imagine you're a ninja blocking distractions - because in the end, the coolest superpower you can have at 13 is the ability to focus.
Now go win your 25 minutes, champ!
