ICC headquarters likely to shift to Dubai

LONDON, DECEMBER 14 (AGENCIES)he news that International Cricket Council (ICC), the world cricket's governing body might move their headquarters from Lords in London to Dubai (although Malaysia is still in contention) is an affront to the BCCI if earlier reports are to be believed that it has been staking its claim for the "mecca" to be located in India, as it generates the maximum money for the sport. But the reports here do not mention that India actually staked any claim.

The countries that were considered last year amongst several offers were Ireland, Switzerland, Malaysia and Dubai. A source said the Pakistan angle should not have been an obstacle as far as India is considered.

Lt Gen Tauquir Ahmed who was chief of the Pak Board a few years had been reported saying the Asia Cricket Board was set up following an agreement with Jagmohan Dalmiya that he would support BCCI's claim. But the then ICC chief did not indicate that the headquarters would be moved at all. There is in fact a strong sentiment amongst cricketers and fans about Lords and that ICC is located there.
