BJP to oppose Bill on Minorities' Education Commission

NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 14 (AGENCIES) BJP today decided to oppose introduction in Parliament of a bill to set up a Commission on Minorities' Education and expressed reservation to certain clauses of the proposed patents bill.

The BJP parliamentary party meeting, chaired by party president L K Advani here, felt that the National Commission for Minorities Education Institutional Bill, 2004 went against the provisions of the constitution and hence must be opposed.

The meeting also expressed opposition to a clause in the proposed Patents Bill that prescribes provision for lodging complaint after the patent is given, BJP parliamentary party spokesman V K Malhotra told reporters.

The party was of the opinion that the scope for complaints should end once the patent is granted, he said. The BJP also demanded that patent should be provided to the process rather than product.

Attacking the UPA government for delaying introduction of the Patents Bill in Parliament, Malhotra said his party apprehended that the government wanted to bring an ordinance on it to bypass the opposition's reservations.

The BJP leader also alleged the government was not bringing in any "serious bill" and that the number of legislative bills proposed to be introduced in Parliament was less.
