Passenger trains collide in Punjab

MUKERIAN, PUNJAB, DECEMBER 14 (AGENCIES)

At least 30 persons were feared killed and 150 others injured in a collision between Jammu Tawi Ahmedabad express and a passenger train in Hoshiarpur district in Mukerian on Tuesday, railway sources said.

The collision between the Jammu Tawi and Jalandhar Pathankot Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains occurred near Mansar village between Mirthala and Bangar railway stations in the Jalandhar-Pathankot railway section.

Railway sources in the Ferozepur division said at least 25 people were feared killed in the accident. Railway Minister Lalu Prasad told reporters in New Delhi that some 15-20 people had died in the mishap.

However, he added that the exact number could be known only when he visits the site of the accident where he was rushing.
