169 riot cases reopened in Vadodara range

VADODARA, NOVEMBER 27 (AGENCIES):

As many as 169 riot-related cases in the Vadodara range have been reopened for investigations. The cases include those pertaining to offences like the murders, attempt to kill, dacoity, house break-in, rioting and arson.
Investigations into 286 cases in the state were restarted by a three-member committee of police officers after it was found that they were earlier put in the cold storage due to A-Summary reports filed in the cases. The Vadodara Range has the highest number of such cases.
Figures for the reviews of cases indicate that A-Summary reports were filed in 528 cases in the Vadodara range, city as well as the Gujarat Railway Police (GRP) precincts. Of these, 317 reports filed in the Vadodara range, 203 in the city and eight in GRP precincts.
Of the 317 A-Summary reports filed in the Vadodara range, 27 were from Bharuch district, 24 from Narmada, 60 from Panchmahals, 57 from Dahod and 149 from Vadodara rural. These cases include those of murder, attempt-to-kill, dacoity, house breakin, rioting and mischief.
According to sources, the committee, whose work is being supervised by the Vadodara Range special IGP, reviewed as many as 338 cases were till October 31. The cases that were reviewed include 257 from the Vadodara range and 81 from the city.

"Of these, 169 cases have been selected for re-investigation from the Vadodara range while none of the cases registered in the city were found fit for reopening," an official said.
The cases in which reinvestigations have been started include 14 murder offences, one offence of attempt to kill, 53 dacoity offences, six house break-in offences, 137 rioting offences and 258 mischief as well as arson cases. Officials pointed out that arrests were also made in connection with many of these cases.
