Indians
shine at Chess Olympiad
MALLORCA, SPAIN, OCTOBER 18 (REUTERS)
India notched up excellent wins on the
third day of the 36th chess Olympiad defeating Philippines and Bulgaria
in Mallorca, Spain.
The Indian Women's team was pitted against a stronger opponent Bulgaria,
having reigning World women Chess Champion Anotneta Stefanova on the top
board against Koneru Humpy.
Despite that Indian Women registered a fine 2-1 victory and went up in
the ranking.
In the men's section, Sasikiran, in absence of Viswanathan Anand, led
the Indian attack on the top board against Philippines Veteran Grandmaster
Torre Eugenio.
Thanks to a resurgent Abhijit Kunte and Surya Shekhar Ganguly, the Indian
men cruised to a 3-1 victory.
With nine points out of a possible 12, Indian men's team is in the group
of the First 10. Ukraine, with all the 12 wins, is leading in the Olympiad.
