Sonia Gandhi exhorts like-minded parties to unite

New Delhi, Feb. 27: Using a platform of scheduled castes and tribes, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday said all like-minded parties fighting for social justice and equality should join hands together.

"All those who are fighting against injustice and atrocities on poor in the country must come together to provide social justice and equality for all sections", she told a National Convention of All India SCs/STs Employees Association here in an apparent appeal to parties like BSP to fight the coming elections jointly.

Gandhi said the battle against the twin evils could be achieved only when all such forces were united.

Gandhi assailed the BJP-led NDA for presenting "distorted" facts regarding the performance of previous governments asserting that Nehru introduced "Socialism" to India even before the country got its freedom which later became the guiding principle for the Constitution.

"The same industries, which became barometer of India’s development, are now being sold for peanuts and those employed hands are now becoming unemployed", she said. (PTI)
