Five coaches of Swatantra Senani Express catch fire

New Delhi, Feb. 19: Five coaches of Swatantra Senani Express proceeding from here to Darbhanga caught fire early this morning in the Tundla-Kanpur section of North Central Railway but there were no injuries or casualties, Northern Railway (NR) said.

The fire was noticed by the station master at Kurara station, who called for switching off the overhead current and brought the train to a halt, the NR said in a press release.

The fire started in a coach and spread to four other coaches later. The train staff defended themselves by conducting fire-fighting operations.

The Northern Railway has run a special train to Shikohabad for the onward journey of stranded passengers.

The track proceeding towards Delhi is now functional and the restoration of the track towards Kanpur and Allahabad direction is expected shortly. (PTI)
