IN BRIEF 34 bills passed in one year: Minister Gandhinagar, Dec. 24: In the eleventh Assembly, 34 bills were passed which is a major milestone in the legislative history of the state since its inception, law minister Ashok Bhatt said here on Wednesday when asked to comment on major achievements of the Modi government in law and justice fields. He further said the law department has taken major initiatives to implement rule of law in Gujarat for the benefit of the citizens. (IPNS)
Video linkage to do away with presenting inmates in courts Gandhinagar, Dec. 24: Law minister Ashok Bhatt said here on Wednesday that law, jail and home departments will jointly launch video conferencing facility on Thursday, to coincide with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayees birthday, which will do away with the need to present jail inmates under judicial custody in the courts. The facility will be inaugurated by chief minister Narendra Modi at a function in Ahmedabad on Thursday. (IPNS)
Protect consumers rights at all cost Ahmedabad, Dec. 24: NGOs should play a proactive role to generate public awareness and protect consumers rights. More than enactment of strict laws, the companies should guard the rights of a consumer, said Justice M.B. Shah, former Justice of the Supreme Court and chairman of National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission. He was speaking at a seminar on consumer rights organised by State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on Wednesday to mark the National Consumer Day. Speaking as the chief guest, Justice Shah stressed that in the times of globalisation, consumers rights should be protected at any cost. (IPNS)
